To become a Scholar, you must be within the last two years of a health professions certificate or degree program, from which you will be able to go directly into you respective field. To become a Scholar, you must be within the last two years of a health professions certificate or degree program from which you will be able to go directly into your respective field, with the exception of medical students. Programs include but are not limited to; Social Work, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, Physician Assistant, MPH, and Occupational Therapy.

Yes! However, they must have served as your supervisor or mentor within a professional environment. We want anyone who can speak to your interest in rural and underserved care sending in a letter of recommendation.
Depending on the Authority, applicants can expect to hear back in a time frame of 1-3 weeks.
Each Virginia AHEC Scholar receives a $1000 stipend split into 4 payments.
AHEC Scholars are required to complete 40 hours of online modules, and 40 hours of Clinical/Community work each year.

Absolutely! As long as you are an AHEC Scholar in our region you can complete your clinical/community activities in any location.
